Currently the number of people applying for concealed carry gun licenses in the state of Louisiana has become large enough so as to slow down the Louisiana State Police. The influx has caused a 4 month backlog. Some feel that this problem is only temporary and that the State Police will be able to catch up quickly and return the wait time to normal periods.
I feel this has happened because of a combination of three recent events.
First, the state changed the law recently to allow the application of lifetime concealed carry permits. For an incremental cost gun owners can now not have to worry anymore about the ongoing cost or inconvenience of renewal.
Second, this is a presidential election year. During election years the number of gun owners who seek to get their permit always rises as gun control and other gun political topics become more prominent in the mainstream media.
Third, crime isn’t going away. Americans don’t feel safer. They feel more vulnerable than ever.
