Yes you do. Like many states, Louisiana requires that all applicants for the permit demonstrate competency with a firearm beyond just a classroom learning experience. If you ever find a class offered by an instructor that doesn’t include a live fire component then you know that class doesn’t legally fulfill the requirements of Louisiana state law.
After completing a class including the live fire you can submit a new application for a Concealed Handgun Permit. Louisiana now allows applicants to submit the application online.
You can also obtain a hard copy of the application at State Police Headquarters in Baton Rouge or you can download it from the state website. The next step is to contact your local police office, sheriff’s department or State Police office for fingerprinting.
